The very fact that I spend 190+ hours on it and completed the game at least 10 times, should speak volume. The interesting thing about this game is the steam achievements. There are 236 steam achievements, which make it necessary to play the games many times to get all the achievements. There are achievements for playing each of the 8 character classes in the game. There are achievements to play the game at all 5 level of difficulties. Furthermore, there are achievements to kill every monster and every boss in the game. To do that you will need to play the game more than once, because different bosses appear towards the end game, based on earlier game decisions that you made at the beginning of the game. Hence to kill all the bosses, you need to finished the game, and then start a Newgame+ game and make DIFFERENT game decisions. There are also achievements for exploring every location, opening every treasure chest, solving every puzzle, finding every treasure, using sonar at every available location, etc. These achievements make it necessary for you to play the game very slowly so that you do not miss anything. Conversely there are aslo achievements that require you to play he game fast, like finishing the game in less than 10 hours, finishing the game in less than a certain number of steps, or killing certain monsters before your party reach certain levels. Then, there those really tedious achievements, like achievements for NOT staying at any inn throught the game, or achievements for saving the game less than 5 times!! I had to really crack my head on these achievements.Actually one of the most fun achievements in this game is the Ultimate Achievements. The user have to play the game on Legendary Difficulty, with the number of monster spawns set to Maximum (Grinding Level) and with savings disabled inside all dungeon. This is particularly difficult, especially during the final dungeon, called the Well of Soul, where all the monster, bosses and super boss is really out to kill you. And... without saving... the developer must be quite a sadist. However, I had a lot of fun with that achievement too, and really wished that there were more games like "Last Dream" that makes it interesting enough for me to play the same game more than 10 times!!I definitely get much more than my money's worth, playing the Last Dream and will definitely love to recommend the game to any RPG Maker fans out there. I love this game, and am looking for the expansion of Last Dream which is suppose to be available anytime now. In the meantime, I am having "Last Dream" withdrawal symptoms, after about 194 hours of immersive game play.. quot;Should I buy this game?" That's the most important question to answer in a review, I think, and I'll answer that first: Probably. If you're even looking at the reviews for this game, chances are that you like the overall concept of it. Given that, yes, you absolutely should buy it. The gameplay is well-balanced and intuitive, the options are truly varied, and the old-school JRPG feeling really shines on here. A lot of love and a lot of learning have gone into this, and it shows. Now, to be a bit more specific:Visuals - Fantastic. Great art, very clear and quite pretty. Solid readability when encountering new things.Music - Varies. Sometimes it's great, sometimes it's jarring, and many of the choices made here were just plain bizarre.Balance - Wonderful. You have the freedom to choose how you want to play, and cleverness will be rewarded.Replay - High. The various combinations for the main team, as well as some in-story decisions, invite exploration.Writing - Good. It's really quite strong in a few spots, but my socks were not knocked off.Clarity - Good. If you read the strategy guide at all, bump that up to Near Perfect.Overall: Very highly recommended. I've really enjoyed my time spent in this game, and plan to spend much more. If you happen to find this game on sale or in a bundle, then pick it up even if it seems like it's not your thing. The game is just that good.. Saw this on IndieDB. Bought both the non-Steam and then the Steam version of Last Dream - primarily for the Steam Achievements and to access the DLC OST Album).Last Dream is a classic RPG that is better than all other classic RPGs. The endless content is exactly what I want: a huge world to explore and attempt to conquer, with interesting characters, unique and mystical towns, epic bosses, a vast storyline, hidden content, and achievements.I've paid pennies on the hour. 10 out of 10.. Last dream is a big homage to the old SNES RPGs, mainly Final Fantasy.Pros:- A lot of content;- Versatility in building your characters;- (Some) good and challenging puzzles;- A big world to explore;- It's as fun as you would expect from a classic RPG.- A surprising lot of minigames.Cons:- The story. Get's a few points because it managed develop a good Villain, but that's just it. No other character is remotely developed;- The music. There's a few excellent choices here, but in my opinion there's a lot of random and weird choices that don't fit with the concepts played in the game;- The graphics. I know it's a RPG Maker game, I wasn't expecting much, but it's a con nonetheless. It gets even less point for some ugly battle backdrops, and how some sprites and backgrounds - as the music in general - seems random and weird. It doesn't fit in a whole;- Fishing. Just a do-repeat grind-fest that is not fun nor useful.Final Opinion:- I highly recommend this game to all fans of old school RPGs despite a few shortcomings.. One of the best RPG maker game so far. The gameplay and the story are perfectly logical. I love the vast world exploration and huge list of achievements the game offers. There are so many things to do in this game. You can choose your party and which class you want in your party. And each class has their unique role in the game. That said but the lack of quest tracking and non-logic puzzle are quite a put off, especially the puzzle. I'm fine with all the puzzle that need logical thinking but all the reflexes puzzle got me boiling so far. They are just so hard and my reflexes are not fast at all. Aren't puzzles supposed to be about logical thinking???And also the moa race. I can't even press fast enough to get >30 in 5s. That's just stupid. But all in all great game!
